Air Liquide™ & Your Industry

Reaction

Transfer of Products

You Should...

  • Quickly decant a liquid or a sensitive powder at lower cost? Nitrogen transfers your products in all efficiency and total safety.

Principle:

  • To decant a liquid, especially a dangerous or a sensitive liquid to moisture or air, or to transfer a fine powder, it is sufficient to take advantage of the nitrogen available pressure with nitrogen: the pressure of gas is used to push the liquid to be decanted.

Advantages:

  • Efficiency and simplicity : this solution is fast and simple to implement
  1. No investment, nor specific maintenance; no wear nor caving phenomenon or corrosion
  2. No dissolution of gas in the product
  3. Few materials used for the implementation

Safety:

  • The process eliminates all risk of pollution linked to metallic impurities or oil.
At the end of operation, your installation contains nitrogen, you get automatically its blanketing

VESTAL™ : An automatic blanketing

You want to securize and monitor the blanketing atmosphere on top of storage tanks?
Whatever the tank undergoes filling or draining phases, temperature scale-up..., the automatic regulation system immediately adapts to these modifications.

Running Vestal™ is transparent for operators; it controls and maintains an inert atmosphere in any process containers (storages, silos, reactors, spin-dryers…), in order to:

  • improve installations safety and limit inflammation and explosion risks while manipulating gaseous, liquid or solid chemicals
  • maintain the quality of products and mixtures sensitive to the environment (oxygen, humidity, microbial development...)

A monitoring of the operating parameters and the running conditions reinforces the autonomous skills of Vestal™.

They will be defined with you, in your environment:

  • When the oxygen content is an issue, Vestal™ OP or Vestal™ O2 will protect your production and contribute to your process safety by maintain a low inert gas over-pressure and controlling the oxygen content
  • When the oxygen content is not an issue, Vestal™ P or Vestal™ E for single or multi tank will maintain a low inert gas over-pressure in an insulated tank

In addition, a Web reporting is also available.

Vestal™ answers European instructions of explosive atmospheres (94/9/EC) and is compliant to the CEM regulation (89/336/EEC).

Thermoregulation

Alaska

You need to:

  • Cool your chemical reactors to low or very low temperatures?
  • Monitor chemical reaction rate?
  • Reduce by-product formation and improve stereo-specificity?

Thermoregulation is inseparable from organic synthesis processes. It guarantees good reactional outputs and participates in maintaining the facility safety.

ALASKA, the Air Liquide range of cold power stations, allows precise control of your chemical reactions when very low temperatures (-40°C to -140°C) are required.

Principle:

ALASKA ensures thermoregulation of reactors by circulation of a cooling fluid cooled with liquid nitrogen. It is an environmentally friendly source of refrigerates, particularly adapted to very low temperatures. Its high refrigerated power allows the safe control of the exothermic reaction (for example, the synthesis of penicillin from 6-APA).

Advantages:

  • Wide range of thermalization (-140°C to + 230°C)
  • High stability of temperature
  • Fast implementation
  • Compactness
  • No heat exchanger corrosion risk caused by the chemical environment
  • Low investment
  • Reduced maintenance
  • Recuperation of nitrogen (non polluted) at the exchanger outlet for blanketing or drying applications

Protection of Products & Facilities

Vestal

Inerting

You want to avoid constitution of explosive atmospheres during storage, transfer, treatment and conditioning of your flammable products, secure your facilities (silos, spin-dryers, reactor shell), or protect your fragile products against oxidization and humidity?

Nitrogen is the inert gas generally used for such applications.

Carbon dioxide is suitable for operations of fire extinction and in cases where acidic properties of this gas are more especially requested.

Safety

When you store flammable products, explosion can occur when the following three elements take place together:

  • presence of flammable steams or dusts (fuels)
  • presence of oxygen from the air (comburant)
  • source of ignition (generally, static electricity, hardly controllable)

Nitrogen injection in gaseous atmosphere on top of a container replaces the air and decreases the oxygen concentration, avoiding explosion risks or humidity take up. Air Liquide proposes a range of Vestal™ equipment that will automatically protect your installation.

Quality

  • Pure, clean, perfectly dry and inert, nitrogen protects your products:
  • No oxygen: your product does not oxidize
  • No humidity: powders do not agglomerate and your product does not chemically degrade during storage
    or further processing
  • No pollutant: absence of oil traces, very high pressure therefore no risk of backflow pollution

Nitrogen must be used with care. Therefore, our experts can offer gas safety training to your teams.
